Task
Building a high professional lecturer team of Plant Protection and approaching new advanced biotechnology to apply for educational mandates of under graduate, graduate, and scientific researches.
Responsible for lecturing on subjects relative to plant protection such as General Plant Pathology, Special Plant Pathology, General Entomology, Special Entomology, Pesticides Utilization, Weed Science, Postharvest - Insect and Disease, Bio-Control, Plant Disease Epidemiology, Plant Quanrentine, Biotecnology in Plant Protection, Agro-Environment for Plant Protection, Agronomy, Biotecnology, Agricultural Technical Education, Agro-Industry Technical Education, Landscape and Horticulture.
Doing basic and applied researches of plant protection, transferring new advance technologies to local areas, and conduct national and international projects for production purposes.
Teaching activities
Responsible for teaching subjects related to Plant Protection such as General Plant Diseases, Plant Pathology, General Insect, Specialized Insect, Use of Plant Protection pesticides, Weeds Science, Storage pests, Beneficial insects, Phytosanitary, Biotechnology in plant protection. To undertake basic research, research and application on plant protection. Transferring advanced sciences and techniques in plant protection to producers, and implementation of scientific projects.
Scientific research
Scientific research activities concentrate on the basic researches and apply IPM approaches for control Pests and Diseases on various plants (such as Vegetable, Rice, Fruits, Ornamental flowers, Flowers, Tobacco, Pepper, and Coffee), that aims at some key issues:
- Conducting researches on agricultural insects, applying bio-ecological measures, rearing and conserving natural enemies (predators, parasitic fungus, insect – parasitic fungus) to manage pests and diseases in the field and post-harvest.
- Using insects for treatment inorganic waste, investigation residue of pesticides and fungicides, and microbial contamination of food crop.
- Investigating approaches to pests and diseases management by biocontrol (using Fungi, Bacterial, and antagonist-nematodes) for environmental protection.
- Investigating and applying new advanced technologies for pests and diseases management on short-day oil plants (Groundnut, Soybean, and Sesame)
Research cooperation
Collaborating with number of Organizations and Institutes : Sub-bureau of Plant Protection; Agricultural Extension; Department of Science, Technology and Environment of Ho Chi Minh city, Binh Duong, Binh Thuan, Ba Ria Vung Tau, Dong Nai province; Agricultural Institute for Southern; Southern Horticulture Research Institute; Cuu Long Delta Rice Research Institute; to build the safety-vegetable production processes, Pest and Disease Management processes of Fruit Tree, Cayeen Pineapple, Ornamental flowers, Pepper, and Coffee.
Collaborating with Food Agricultural Organization (FAO) in Coconut Beetle (Brontispa longissima) project, and Norway in IPM project of vegetable.
Technology transfer
Department of Plant Protection has been transferred number of new advanced technologies and safety vegetable production processes to Binh Thuan and Dong Nai provinces; Pest and Disease Management processes of Fruit Tree, Cayeen Pineapple, Ornamental flowers to suburb areas of Ho Chi Minh city; Training in Pest and Disease Management of Pepper, Rubber, Coffee in Binh Phuoc, Ba Ria Vung Tau, Äăk Lắk, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Quang Tri, Quang Nam provinces. In additional, number of short-trainning courses were also held to improve knowledge and skills in plant protection for agricultural extention and plant protection officers in local areas, factories, seed companies in Vietnam.
Strategies for staff development
All staffs in Department of Plant Protection will be leading experts in their own responsibility field. They are high prestigious and ability in transferring new technologies, evaluation, ratify national and international projects.
